A forum can serve many purposes:

A Moodle forum, also can be used as: a one to many way of broadcasting (to all participants or to subgroups only), a Frequently Asked Questions list, a separate work space for a subgroup, an archive of an earlier discussion, an advertising medium (internships, jobs). It can automatically produce a RSS Newsfeed for use on other (external) web pages.

A glossary can serve many purposes:

A Moodle glossary not only can be used for definitions or encyclopedia lemma's, but also as a collection of citations, personal introduction pages, cartoons, literature references. As an assignment participants could enter three unique entries. A random item may be published on the front page of course or site.

Add a crossword puzzle to your course:

You can include a so called HotPot module (Hot Potatoes) to your course. Hot Potatoes is an open source package to create a variety of quizzes. One special format is the crossword puzzle. It is easy to create and often appreciated.

Adding a line break into a paragraph of text:

When entering a text, the Enter key implies both a line break and an empty line. If you only want to have a line break, press Shift + Enter.

Apply some rules during chat sessions:

Chatting easily can become a mess. In a planned session, a chairperson should orchestrate the chat. In a spontaneous session, it helps when you start your messages with the name of the person to whom you are responding.

B
Be careful with copying Wiki-links:

Do not copy / paste a link from one Wiki-page to another. Although the link will work, it will not do anymore when you move the Wiki to another server. Be sure that your links to Wiki-pages are entered always as "["+page name+"]".

Be careful with large picture files:

It looks so simple, uploading a large picture file and then indicating you only need a smaller version. Indeed, the published picture is small. However, the underlying file is as large as before and has to be downloaded to anybody viewing the small picture.

D
Do instant voting via the Choice activity:

For a teacher, the creation of a "choice" activity is only a matter of a few mouse clicks. You can do it on the fly. The "choice" is an easy mechanism for instant polling or voting on a single question.

F
Find interesting RSS feeds in the appropriate overview site:

On the Internet many web sites offer so called RSS News feed facilities. You can publish relevant newsfeeds for your course in a Newsfeed block on the front page of your course.

Force your students to use a foreign language:

Normally, users can select their preferred Moodle dialogue language. As a course creator, however, you can force them to use a certain language. Especially, when teaching foreign languages, this could be an option.
